Ukraine announces embargo on Polish pork

On Monday morning, Ukrainian authorities re-introduced an import ban on Polish pigs, pork meat and products made of it, according to an announcement from the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine. The previous embargo had been called off just over a month ago.

Ukrainian inspectors said that the embargo is due to recently recorded cases of African swine fever (ASF) in domestic pigs in Poland. The ban does not apply to regions were laboratory tests confirmed the lack of the virus, the statement said.

Last week, Polish veterinary inspectors said that ASF has been diagnosed in two pigs on a farm in the east of Poland. Earlier cases of the disease in Poland had only been recorded in wild boar.
